‘This is why I’m running’: How a young woman went from being the poster child of Canadian politics to being the first Canadian woman to lead the federal election

VANCOUVER, B.C. — A young woman from Vancouver is the first woman to serve as leader of a federal election campaign and she has become a lightning rod for political and social media controversy.

The woman, who was elected to Parliament in 2017, was in charge of the NDP’s campaign in B.S. in 2019 when she was accused of sexually assaulting a male student at the University of British Columbia.

She apologized and was suspended from the party and expelled from university.

The allegations led to a new investigation into her conduct, which she eventually dropped.

Since then, she has led the NDP to victory in every provincial election and her leadership has brought to the forefront the problems with sexual harassment and sexual assault in politics.

But she’s also been accused of lying to her staff about the allegations and of having a history of inappropriate relationships with students, some of whom allege she sexually assaulted them.

“I’m a woman, I’m a human being,” she told The Canadian Press on Thursday, after her victory speech.

“And I know I have a lot to offer the country.”

I’m not a liar.

I’ve tried to tell my story.

I’m not one of those people who’s just sitting around and telling lies, she said.

I don’t have a problem telling my story, she added.

“But I’m also not a victim.

I understand the pressure to make a story go away, and I do, too.”

The former NDP leader said she’s been “uncomfortable” in politics since leaving the party.

She says she was forced to resign from the New Democrats caucus in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, and she says she feels compelled to speak out.

“It’s very difficult to be in politics and not speak up, because you don’t know what’s going on and you don.t know how people are being treated,” she said in an interview on CBC’s The House.

She was first elected in 2019 as a candidate in the riding of Stoney Creek, and was re-elected by a narrow margin in 2019.

She’s the first candidate in her family to be elected to federal politics and she said she has a “deep understanding” of how to get things done.

“You don’t really have to be a politician to make change happen.

You just have to make the change yourself, which I’m very proud of,” she added, calling her leadership a “major contribution” to Canadian politics.

The NDP won two seats in B,S.

last time around, and won in both 2019 and 2020.

The party also gained two seats at the provincial level in the last election, taking the seat of Dawson from the Liberals.

While she was a member of the New Democratic caucus, her father, David, was elected as an MP in 2001.

David was also a minister of labour under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and has been involved in politics for decades.

His son has also served as an NDP candidate in B.,S., in two previous elections, and as a cabinet minister in New Brunswick.

Vancouver-area NDP MP Nathan Cullen says the allegations against her are “unfounded” and he’s confident the party will have a strong candidate for leader.

“I’m very confident that she will be a good leader,” he said.

However, he said he’s worried the media attention is distracting from a “critical issue.”

“This is the biggest problem facing our country right now, the systemic problem that we have with sexual assault and sexual harassment, the problem of bullying and harassment,” he told reporters in Bancroft Square on Thursday.

Cullen said his constituents and the NDP will be voting in an election in October.

More than 1,300 people signed a Change.org petition calling for Cullen to be expelled from the NDP and called for him to resign.

Several people also called on the party to suspend Cullen indefinitely from caucus.

Kelsey Wintour has become an outspoken critic of the current leadership and she tweeted on Thursday that the former NDP MP was “unqualified” for the job.

I would say @davidcullen is unqualified to be #leader of #NDP.

We need a new leader #Change.

“She doesn’t know how to handle her emotions.

I think it’s a very, very, dangerous position to be at right now.”

Former prime minister Stephen Harper also has a reputation for being “difficult to work with,” and he said it was “a shame” he was not given
