US ‘must take action’ against Russian incursion into Crimea

The US has taken “appropriate” steps to respond to Russian incursions into Crimea and the use of “unlawful force,” US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said today.

“There are no new developments,” Haley said at a briefing, adding that “the US is prepared to act.”

The US was “prepared to respond in a responsible way,” Haley added.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko have said the US and other Western powers are trying to create an “unfriendly” environment for Russia.

Russia has repeatedly accused the US of supporting the “separatist forces” in eastern Ukraine, which Moscow says is aimed at creating an independent Ukrainian state.
