Aussie players have hit the jackpot this year with $100m in online poker rake.

It was followed by New Zealand’s $1m in first three-day stakes, followed by a $800,000 win from the Las Vegas poker event hosted in conjunction with Bovada.
Australian players took home $11.6m, up from $8.7 million the year before.
The largest single-day win came from the $2.5 million prize handed out at the London PokerStars tournament hosted by online poker giant Bovad.
The event also saw $1million handed out in first-day rake.
Online poker is becoming increasingly popular in Australia as it provides a new revenue stream for online players.
The average poker player in Australia now makes $15,000 a year playing online.
The rise in popularity of online poker has resulted in a huge influx of players in recent years.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has estimated the total number of poker players in Australia to be around 35,000, up more than 100,000 from the previous year.
The number of players is estimated to reach almost a quarter of all poker players across the country.
According to Bovado, the biggest draw for Australian players to play online poker is the payout and the competitive nature of the game.
“With poker rake it’s a lot easier to find new players and win money,” said CEO and CEO of Bovador Ian Cope.
“The payout is just a really nice bonus for people that are playing.”
